  • If you think the Doors didn’t have a bass player, you’d be only half right. While the band never recruited a full-time bassist, it called upon some of Los Angeles’s finest studio musicians to create their albums finishing with Elvis Presley bassist Jerry Scheff who brought a Memphis vibe to the band’s final offering, L.A. Woman. Here are the guts they used and the albums that they appear on: The Doors - Larry Knechtal Strange Days - Doug Lubahn Waiting for the Sun - Doug Lubahn, Kerry Magness & Leroy Vinegar. The Soft Parade - Harvey Brooks Morrison Hotel - Ray Neapolitan & Lonnie Mack L.A. Woman - Jerry Scheff Other Voices - Jack Conrad, Ray Neopolitan & Willie Ruff Full Circle - Chris Ethridge, Jack Conrad, Charles Larkey & Leland Sklar.
  • For live performances Ray Manzarek played a pedal bass along with his normal keyboard duties.
  • Of Course they had Bass..even on the very 1st record.. Ray was fantastic w/ his left hand on the Keys Bass but the songs simply demanded more in the studio and Rothchild saw to it that the songs be actualised to their fullest potential on tape..(* NOTE this is simply MY opinion mind you) I especially love the Live DOORS i have heard for the spontaneity and impromtu magic that develops..BUT the recording studio was a different enviornment and i feel listening to the records bears this out :) ENJOY!
