The government is a large collection of people, each with a specific area of concern. No one person is really that influential, and they are merely following previously established policies...so even if someone decided 'today I will stop meddling in your life'...how much power do you think they would have? Frustrating to be sure!

Well, perhaps the government thinks it's alright to intervene in the lives of the people in their country simply because they have power. After all, they are the "government". Personally, I live in Canada, and I live near a bunch of people who work for the government, and I'm not sure if they've ever interfered with my life. I guess that says a lot.

because we asked them too. welfare/medical coverage,you name it and the government adds another arm to the octopus.
