  • How many Americans do you personally know who are willing to put in the *years* of education and very hard work it takes to become a doctor? The US work ethic has been on the decline for some time--we collectively seem to have a sense of entitlement that entices us to believe that we can get everything we want with a minimum of effort. Eventually that attitude is going to catch up with most of us, and we'll have to change something. In the meantime, though, be glad that so many Indian, Arab, and African doctors are willing to come here and help keep us healthy, in spite of the discrimination they often face.
  • We recruit from everywhere. Foreign Doctors can get jobs here. They are frequently overqualified for the salaries they receive. There is a global labor market. Our low tax rates, available technology, suburban lifestyle - what's not to like?
  • I don't think it's so much America "recruiting" doctors from other countries... there are just several other countries that recognize that the US educational system and medical job market are superior to what is available in their own countries. My friend Ahsan is from Pakistan. He came to America with his new wife 18 years ago. He went into Engineering, and she went into Medicine. They had already (at nineteen years old) completed the highest education available in their home country, and wanted more. It took a lot of work (since there were no grants or scholarships available, and international student tuition is pretty high)... but they both have their citizenship, Ahsan has a good job with the municipal government designing roadways, and Farah just opened her own private practice.
