No, he didn't demand it. Jesus sacrificed himself willingly. And if you read the gospels you'll see that it was hinted that God was a little angry about it too.

The Old and New Testaments were both written by humans, but they were written in different times by different humans with different motivations and agendas. Single humans are rarely consistent over long periods. We are talking different humans over a period of about 1000 years.

Well an interesting thing is that in the Quran, Jesus never sacrificed himself - in fact he never died on the cross - he was replaced by God with another who had his appearance. Therefore, according to muslim belief, he never died and the second coming is very much on the agenda :)

Human sacrifice in the OT was done by pagans to appease pagan gods. Since the pagan gods did not exist, there was no necessity to appease them by sacrificing your firstborn son. However, there was enough truth left even in debased pagan religion to suggest that maybe there was ONE son, somewhere, who could pay for the sins, not of one human, but of all humans. That is what God was talking about. THere needed to be payment for sin, and only a Perfect Son could do it. Jesus volunteered. He said "No one takes it(=my life) away from me; I give it up of myself. I have power to give it up, and I have power to take it again. These orders I have from my Father." John 10:18 Our difficulty in reconciling the fact that God sent Jesus to die and that Jesus voluntarily died is based on our inability to understand the Trinity. Since the Father is God, He sent Jesus. Since Jesus is God, He came willingly. I hope this explains it at least a little bit.

Simple, it's a different God, a new God. The OT God is One and very jealous about it. This is what He says in Exodus 20:3-5 "Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God," This is the original God, worshipped in synagogues and mosques with no symbols or images. According to the Christians this all changes in the NT. According to them the NT God is a triune God that no one fully understands let alone can satisfactorily explain. This God is worshipped in churches which have symbols and images, the crosses and the crucifixes. This God had a Son who was himself the God who as a Son was sent down by the Father to die as a sacrifice and a loss to the Father of His only Son. The Father sacrificed His only Son but every time He looks to His right we are told He finds His Son there even though He sacrificed Him. It is very confusing. It's a different God, it's a new God with new rules.

Because humans killing other humans(with the exception of just or right war, self-defense, etc) is murder. Also, human sacriface would have been unprofitable, because our blood is tainted and corrupted with sin. Jesus' blood was perfect and sinless, because His blood was God's blood. God the Son, Jesus Christ, laid His life down for us and shed His blood for our sins so we could be atoned for. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Creator, and God manifest in the flesh, became the Passover Lamb sacrifaced to God for our sins. Thank you and may God bless you! :) -In Jesus' Name.

I guess God can change his mind too.
