I took one trip abroad. And you are correct, the only way my father could see the world was to enlist in the Navy.

What makes you say that? Past generations have enjoyed the same oportunities to travel that present generations enjoy today. As a matter of fact, it was easier to travel abroad in the past, as there were no fears of terrorism and Americans were seen as icons of health and wealth just about anywhere they went.

I travel abroad, and am a third generation sailor, (I'm out now.) In fact I'll have to go to Brazil eventually if I ever want to progress to the level of Graduado or higher in capoeira. I'll agree with that, however, I don't really think my dad could handle being abroad.

I love travelling to other countries, just 2 weeks ago I drove to Sweden because "I could"! I have never thought about previous generations but now you come to mention it it is a bit sad.

Yes I have. I was an exchange student in Germany. I have experienced the "older" generation while there. I must say unfortunately, that the older generation runs through Europe treating Europeans with a lot of disrespect. They feel that they are God's gift to the planet. I as an American, and a PRoud one at that, can say we are many things but God's gift..despite our delusions, especially of our older generations, is something we are not. We are not evil but we are not saints either.

I have taken trips abroad and lived in foreign countries but those thoughts have never came to mind.

No vacationing out of the country for me. I would love to go to Australia and perhaps Brazil. The Girly desperately wants to see Scotland. I agreed to make that a priority because I love scotch. I do love that we have many more opportunities than previous generations to do these sort of things. While it's not feasible at this point, the expense and difficulty of travel is pretty minimal compared to just fifty years ago.
