  • I cannot say that full takeoff power is enough to suck a light vehicle, but this could depend on the engine and the vehicle and the relative location of both. I am not going to question the fact that jet engines have the power to blow vehicles behind them. The jet wash can be quite powerful, a fairly recent mythbusters episode proved this with a 747 and some vehicles from the junk yard. However, the air intake of the engine is not as straightforward as its exit path. The air is blown around the fans, not sucked directly in, although some air is. Don't think of the first stage turbofan as a vacuum but more of an 'air collector.' Is it possible for this engine to suck in items, absolutely. This is why there can't be debris on the runways and taxiways. I refuse to accept that a light vehicle would be in front of a jet on full power and manage to get in the right position to be sucked into the engine without being hit by the moving plane in the first place.
