Is anyone hetero phobic?
-
Questions like this keep me up at night. If one exists, mustn't the other by default? In the name of equality, I would think. *listens to the sound of her points being flushed down the drain*

Because heterophobia is rather rare. Homophobia is part of our culture, thus is rather widespread. I will admit I have met a heterophobic gay guy. He thought ALL straight people were evil bigots, and wanted gays to have their own country. I tried to explain to him the simple biological fact as to why that would not work, but he did not get it. :) A huge all-gay timeshare-resort might be nice though. :)

Because no one is beating or murdering you because you're straight. No one is firing you from your job for being straight. No one is refusing to rent to you for being straight. No one is kicking you out of your parents' home for being straight. No one is denying you custody rights over your children for being straight. No one is denying marriage benefits to you because you're straight. If those things started to happen, then we would have to have a category for it.
-
because homosexuals are the "minority to be protected"
-
Because homophobia exists, and "heterophobia" doesn't.
-
Maybe some gay people do fear heterosexuals. You never know. It may just not be publicized as much as homophobia is.
-
Maybe because the hetero community doesn't buy into the victomology paradigm.
-
Homophobia is widespread, sadly, and homosexuals need protection from violent and bigoted heterosexuals. I have yet to hear of groups of gay guys getting together to go 'straight-bashing'.

Heterophobia DOES exist. It is largely less known and less widespread, as only an estimated 10% (the gay people) of the population could possibly have it. Fewer heterosexuals are homophobic nowadays, even fewer homosexuals are heterophobic. Homophobia is better known and out there because it is socially unacceptable in some areas per politic views and religious views to be homosexual. Heterosexuality is a frame generally accepted by all and therefore they are less victim of prejudice. SOME gay people sometimes have what appears to be "clicky" attitudes and seclude themselves from the heterosexual world into their gay "villages" and only want to be surrounded by gay people. They look down on straight people and find them "inferior" to their sexuality. Understand that IT IS VERY RARE, hence the fact many did not hear about it either. The way to express the heterophobia is less physical as well. You wouldn't see hetero-bashings and other violent actions against heterosexuals. But some homosexuals INDEED discriminate heterosexuals and/or hate them. THE MINUTE you can classify people in "categories", it is possible for people in either catergoy to discriminate the other. Myself as a gay man I've seen many of my friends (back in those days I hung out in gay places) having those kind of thoughts vs heteros, but ... very very rare they are. (they didn't even have str8 girl friends!!) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heterophobia It really DOES exist!!! Those who have denied its existence are misinformed or haven't done their research well. ...if you mean category in the ABag sense of it, well you can suggest it being added, but since it is very very rare and not many questions would be asked on the subject, therefore it is not very useful for it to be there.

you can always suggest a new category! http://www.answerbag.com/suggest?parent=1

I don't know, but i DO get REALLY sick of my so called 'socially activist liberal?!' friends introducing me to their other friends (who i have NOTHING in common with - artistically/literally/creatively...etc.) who have young children simply because they seem to think that my aversion to the company of such will be anything other than heightened by contact......!!!! If i don't have a problem with wanting nothing to do with children & those whose sole interest is talking about them i don't see that it's anybody else's business... or perhaps they are bending over backwards to show that they don't mind queer people such as the likes of me near their young..... heh heh heh......

I'm not saying "heterophobia" doesn't exist, I've just never experienced it myself. I don't know any LGBT person who is heterophobic. my family and most of my friends are straight. I have no issues with them nor they with me. My only issues are with those who hate anyone who is "different"...whether it's due to sexual orientation, race, religion or culture. and I've seem bigotry from all kinds of people. It's a frightening thing.

good question
-
Probably because it seems nobody is heterophobic, and if they are, it is extremely rare unlike homophobia.
-
lets say that 1% of the straight population is homophobic and let us also say that 1% of gay people are hereto phobic. there are just a whole hell of a lot more of you than there is of us. not to say that are no gay who hate straights with equal passion. also i have never herd of gays bashing anyone.
-
I havnt heard to much about anyone being heterophobic, therefore, they have no need to make the category
