  • They certainly should - as a wild card. They are currently 7-5 and play the Jets next week. They also have the 49'ers the last week of the season. They are good for at least 9 wins. The Brown's got robbed at the end of that game this week. here is the word on the one catch the ref said was not a TD: "Browns tight end Kellen Winslow caught a pass in the end zone on the last play of Sunday's game that would have been the game-winning touchdown if it had been ruled a completion. But side judge Joe Larrew ruled that Winslow was out of bounds (which was correct), and that Winslow was not forced out (which was a highly suspect ruling). Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that although Winslow himself hasn't complained, his teammates have. "[The officials] should've called it a force-out on the field," cornerback Leigh Bodden told Cabot. "I guess the ref just didn't have the guts to do it. That was an amazing catch. From the replay it looked like even the guy hit him a little bit early, before he even caught it." Browns wide receiver Braylon Edwards agreed, saying, "I'm not one to challenge the referee, but it's always been my understanding that if the receiver is in the air and is pushed out of bounds, it's a force-out."
  • Pittsburgh will almost certainly win that division - they would have to drop 3 out of the last 4 to let the Browns past - but I think Cleveland will get a wildcard spot. They score a lot of points, and their remaining schedule is fairly soft... they should get to an absolute minimum of 9-7 (might get in, might not), but will probably finish as good as 10-6 (99% certain to get in). Jacksonville look strong... tough, uncomplicated and mean, not in the mood to let teams beat them unless they really earn the right to, so they will be the first wildcard I think. The other team at 7-5, Tennessee, are very one dimensional... their passing game is very poor, so if teams can keep Vince Young contained and block up the run then they can be beaten by even mediocre teams... they don't have the range of offense that the Browns have so I don't see them getting better than 9-7. I don't really see the Bills putting in a late charge, but they play Miami next week and face the Browns themselves the week after so if the Browns were to slip up there then things might be back into the balance... it would give the Bills some real momentum going down the stretch, so that is really the key game. But on the whole I would feel fairly optimistic if I were a Browns fan, and I'm not sure that has been said too often over the years!
