Depending on the application. Newer BIG earthmovers come std with hydraulic brakes. On road truck tractors up to 4 ton mostly - hydraulic 4 - 8 hydraulic to air or visa versa. 8 ton and up most cases air only. But again there are exceptions. Air brakes usually are a cheaper system to maintain and are very reliable. Trailers from 2.5T (depending on government rulling in your area) must be fitted with air systems.
