We were fishing for catfish in a brackish creek. I thought I had caught a grandaddy cat. When I pulled it in it was a soft-shelled turtle. Getting the hook out was scary. It's neck kept stretching and it's sharp-toed feed kept flailing. Scary stuff!

a few times here in the us and once in barbados just this last summer.no one eats turtle in the family and in barbados i had to let it go because the fine u.s.$25,000:00 to catch one and take it.

This small lake I was at seemed to have more turtles than fish. During slack times it was tempting to try and snag a turtle, but I didn't.

I was bass fishing with my husband and brother-in-law in a strip pond.... big ole snapper grabbed my bait and I didn't know what I was going to do once I got it on shore... yelled for hubby and his brother... by the time they got up to me the turtle was right at the shore and snapped the line!

Strangest thing I ever caught was a chipmunk (photo). We were walking toward the river with our poles and I didn't notice that my line was dragging on the ground. I must have left a little bait on the hook, b/c the little guy spotted it and grabbed it. My dad unhooked the him and set him free. =====================
