Interesting question...anyway, When you are in a cold enviroment, you are surrounded by cold air; however, the air inside your nose is warm. The water vapor that exists in the air condenses inside your warm nose, combinds with the innate nose mucas, and viola! and your nose runs... Hope this helps...

It runs to get away from the cold and to get to somewhere warm. If it froze, the ice would block your nostrils and you couldn't breath and would die. No, you couldn't breath through your mouth because the mucous would drip into that orifice and you would inhale the liquid and also die by choking on it.

Actually it is a combination that your nose is a warm environment and the fact that the cilia (hair) in your nose freezes. The cilia's job is to catch the mucous and move it toward the back of the throat, but because it is frozen it can't do that.

Actually your nose is trying to warm the air before it enters your lungs by dilating the tiny blood vessels which results in more mucous being produced which then runs out your nose. As for freazing if it's outside of the body yes.
