  • just wait until it's healed. if you can move your current barbell around without experiencing any pain, you're probably good to go. i think the general rule of thumb is two weeks or something, but i changed my labret ring out 3 days after i got it pierced and i had no problems.
  • I got my toungue pierced about four weeks ago the piercer told me you could take it out after one month it does'nt hurt anymore and i could change it the only problem was my tongue was still a little swollen even though i did not think so...the best thing to do is wait two months...yes it sucks but u got to do what you got to do.
  • EIGHT WEEKS you may think your tongue is all good and not swollen but the average persons tongue takes about 8 weeks to fully heal. So just hold your horses because it wont b much longer.
  • About 3 weeks after the piercing was done is generally a good time frame, but it varies. Some people can change it sooner, some need to wait longer. It all depends on how well you looked after it for the week after it was done, really.
  • Well they use a longer barbell when they initially pierce it, and that can make it easier to bite down on it when your tongue isn't swelling up anymore. I found that after two weeks mine was healed enough to put a shorter barbell in, just so it was easier to eat and talk without fear of biting on it because you don't have to deal with the extra length. I think its originally pierced with a 3/4" long one and people then decrease the barbell length to either 5/8" or 1/2" depending on the person. It was a little weird changing it for the first time, but I think it is better to change it to a shorter one after 2 weeks just to talk and eat easier. I'm not advocating that you change it whenever you want after two weeks (and NOT AT ALL advocating a vibrating one, wait a while for that) just a shorter one to allow you to cope with it while it heals. Leave that one in for a few more weeks before you change it at will.
  • it differs with anyone. when i looked on the internet to see how long i should wait, it was useless. some people said two months, some people said two days. you will know when it is healed, TRUST ME. you will experience little to no pain after a week or so. at that point, go to the piercer and have them take a look at it. i changed it myself, very carefully. the little pain i did have left was gone after i took that heavy and long barbell out.
