  • Nothing that violates the known laws of physics. We understand how neurons function & how they dynamically interconnect through synapses. We know that there are nano-scale features such as proteins and nucleic acids involved in memory and experiential recall, but the details are largely still unknown. Experts debate endlessly the role -- if any -- of quantum effects in modulating brain function, including such conundrums as free will and self-awareness. Obviously what goes on in the brain is marvelous and mysterious! But no "spooky" atomic effects unique to brain tissue -- just physics and chemistry at work in a very, very complex system. The theory of vitalism was abandoned a century ago.
