Help answer this question below.
Two possible solutions to your problem; the switch which makes your brake lights work is bad or out of adjustment. It is located above your brake pedal mounted on a bracket. It works as soon as you press the brake and closes the electrical circuit which makes juice go to your lights. Second, you could have a bad ground wire on your wiring harness, but I would suspect that this isnt your case if your running lights, turns signals, and license plate lights still function. To locate this you have to trace the wiring harness in the rear of the van and find the ground wire protruding from the harness and attaching to the body and it will probably be hidden behind a rear panel in your van. It will most likely be on the drivers side of GM vehicles. Good luck.

You're reading I have a 1988 GMC Safari van.The brake lights don't work. I checked the fuses and the bulbs, but can find no reason why they aren't working. What else could be the cause?
