No, but I gave one to my wife one year. Actually, it was a joke. Diamonds are made from coal. I gave her the coal with a card that said "this is for when you were naught." Next to it was a diamond bracelet with a card that read "This was for when you were nice." She didnt find it as funny as I did...

Well last year there wasn't anything in my stocking, so I suppose a lump of coal is better than nothing. I could fire it up and use it to toast marshmallows.

Nope. Although one year, when I was in about 5th grade, my half brother gave me the most beautifully wrapped, big box.........

    full of horse shit.

It kinda upset me. We weren't raised together, (family drama before my parents married and had me) he lived with my Dad's Mom and Dad.

He also had a part time job (he was 4 years older than me) working for a relative who bred and trained horses. I loved horses. I wanted to work there too (weekends), but they wouldn't let me, because I was A GIRL (and they were assholes!)

So, what I felt was not sad that he didn't buy me a gift...I felt like he was making fun and rubbing it in that I wasn't allowed to work with the horses that I loved.

Yes ! I've actually seen them sold in the store filled with real coal. My mother bought it for me one year when I was young.

Do you mean literally? No, thank goodness. Figuratively, when one is little one doesn't appreciate things like a new toothbrush...that would be my figurative "lump of coal". :)

No, but I probably deserved it. I may ask for one this year. Maybe a lemon (pie), too.

I got a bag of coal in my stocking just 2-3 years ago! It was really gum, but you wouldn't have known by looking at it! I'm hoping to get some this year too!
