Is it really? Because I own my laptop for 2 years and a half now and haven't done it at all yet!!!... I don't think it really affects it....

On a regular basis, probably not. But then again, depends on your work environment; if your work takes you to a dusty environment : factories, field work, etc; then it wouldn't hurt to have the fan vacuumed once in a while. I found a small, cheap vacuum device that connects and powers from the Usb port. It is a simple and fast way to clean away the fan and the keyboard.

It certainly won't hurt it to clean it on a regular basis, externally but if your talking about opening it up and cleaning the components in there, then thats a different story. Internally leave it to a proffesional as ESD can and will damage the components if care isn't taken!
