  • What does F.M.G even stand for ?
  • I certainly do not approve, yet another example of the barbarism of Islam.
  • I don't know...but I do know that I don't approve of the practice.
  • Yes it is true. Wouldn't it be the same as circumsicion, though?
  • I believe it is a practice carried on in certain countries in Africa and is a local tribal custom. It has nothing to do with the religion of Islam.
  • This practice is forbidden in Islam but some uneducated people do that. These people will do it regardless of their religion. Anyway, in Saudi no one is doing that.
  • This is my reply to 'look closely it is really me' because it seems that I have a problem with posting comments. This Hadith and all other Hadiths that talk about FGM are either 'week' or 'unacceptable'. For a very long time, the religious refernces agreed not to use such Hadith to argue on any matter. There is 'correct' Hadiths on men circumcision (it's 'sunnah' not 'wajib' which means it's ok if one didn't do it) but there is no single 'correct' Hadith on whether FGM is allowed or forbidden. In such casses, Muslims get confused and start using the 'week' Hadith (which is not right). Sometimes, they argue that it's allowed since the profit didn't forbid it (which is not always right). In the past, people lacked the correct health knowledge and there were no resources from which they can learn. As a result, they kept practicing their traditions. Some of the religious references (who lacked the health knowledge & lacked the wisdom) made the issue worst by forcing their own interpretations of irrelevant Quran-says and Hadiths into the issue. Nowadays, it becomes clear that FGM is harmful to the women's health. In Isalm, anything that may harm the human body is forbidden. Therefore, most of the religious references forbidded FGM. The rest argue that there is no solid proof that FGM is harmful but the good thing is that they don't consider it as a must-do thing 'wajib'.
  • Islam doesn't have a pro or con stance against FMG. There have been numerous studies done on this, it is rampant in a lot of Africa and many asian countries as well as the middle east. It is a cultural tradition and is not at all related to Islam as a religious core of beliefs.
