Yeah, it would. Even shutting your car off for very short periods of time uses less fuel, despite what we've been told. Idling vehicles pour out a lot more nasty emissions than when they are moving) I suspect it's our culture, got to get in and out as fast as possible and eat the meal while driving. There are a few drive-ins left, scattered all over.. A&W has a handful and Sonic is drive-in, although I've been told their food is awful. (I don't patronize fast food places unless it's some sort of emergency, although I'm happy to use their restrooms any time I need to.)

People should not do the drive in thing. I agree. It doesn't hurt to park the car and go to the register of a fast food restaurant and order your items even if it is to go. Many times I find it to quicker to park and go to a sorter line and order from the Mc-Clerk rather than to idle in a gassy drive through line. Now I am answering this from the premise of the busy eater who is on the go for reasons such as that they are the designated buyer for a group which is a perfectly explainable reason why dine in would not be an option.
