Questions from several months ago seem new. I almost answer them a second time, with a similar answer! Is there some way to avoid doing this? Has anyone else run into this?

I have done this many times. I've even asked a question I already asked a year ago! The best way to do it, unfortunately, is to look for your answer to see if you already did or expand your memory.

Yes it has happened to me many times and the only way to know for sure is to look and see if i posted a previous answer

That never happens to me because since I give points to each question I answer I can tell right away which ones I've answered and which ones I haven't. It works as a marker for me. SO two people get something out of me giving points to the question, the asker and me.
