It is if you consider sex to be part of an intimate relationship. However, if you are into recreational sex, casual sex, then it's not so important. With young people these days, having sex is also a rite of passage and one's social status can hinge on whether or not you have 'done it.' Sad, sad times, when young people feel that kind of pressure to betray their values.
