Yeah I think so, for the most part he know what he is talking about. Just as well as the other judges, look at the outcome over the years.

I thought I was the only one who's feeling that way! I've always believed that Paula Abdul has the right to criticize budding singers, as she is a singer herself. But Simon? Nah!

Why would a person have to be able to do (anything) before they can tell when it is done well or not? Would we all have to be the best singers, the best artists, the best movie producers, etc, etc in order to say which one is bad, and which one isn't?

Actually he can sing. He has kind of an operetic voice

Yes, it is all about objectivity. Bosses tell their potential secretaries that their typing is horrible all the time and these same bosses can't type themselves. But the boss is the boss, so it doesn't matter if he/she is a singer or an Office Manager. It is the employees job to do their best to impress, not the one who is hiring. +

Of course it is. Its his job. If I judge someone on their skill, my own skill has nothing to do with theirs. No connection at all. As long as I know the difference between high and low levels of skill, then I can judge. Everything that comes out of someones mouth is a subjective opinion anyway. Some opinions are more valuable than others'; this is up to everyone to judge for themselves. I hope that made some sense :P

The question makes no sense. What does his own singing ability have to do with his ability to listen and judge what he hears? Some people are horrible singers. It would be cruel to tell them they sound good.

sure, hes made many people famous and made them millions of dollars. he spends his own money promoting talentt

Hes a critic, not an artist. I do see where you're coming from but it simply doesn't apply. I think Randy is less credible than Simon. But above all that, The whole American Idol show would be boring as HELL without Simon.
