  • This is a matter of ecology. Ants are part of the ecosystem they inhabit - part of the life-web that every location on earth has. Many species depend on them for food and they also modify their environment (by tunneling or burrowing). Every species of ant has a different role to play. Assuming there is a "purpose" for them in our lives as humans doesn't quite work - they don't have a utility for us, they aren't there to serve us in some way. They're a form of life - they are their own purpose.
  • They also serve as the final 'clean-up crew' for dead animals, carrying away bits too small for other animals to bother with.
  • Depending on what type of ant, the pollinate, clean up, aerate, control insect populations, manufacture soil and additives.
