I always had a hard time with that quote because IMO i think you should keep you enemies close and your friends closer because with your enemies you know what they're liable of doing. You know your enemies could key your car..slash your tires..talk bad about you..trash your yard are all EXPECTED. But friends are sneaky. They will lie and talk about you to other people, they will use you, they will pretend they care when really they dont. These are all UNEXPECTED. You wouldnt think a friend would do things like that but they do. The quote should say "Keep you enemies close and your friends closer"

well - you know you'r friends and you know you can trust them - so you dont really have to keep an eye on them - becuase you dont know what your enemies are up to and what they are capable of - then keep your enemies closer than your friends because of that. thats my interpretation anyway...
