  • For me the only thing that works is, when I fear somthing I make myself do it over and over and over. Get someone you trust to drive you a few times. I used to be affraid of elevators, till I had to walk up 11 flights of stairs. I did that 3 times and said I'm not affraid of elevators!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL
  • distract your self. listen to music, fall asleep, or video games
  • Well, the worst thing you can do is to avoid this fear. It will only get worse, and widen in it's scope People who suffer from agoraphobia usually start with a fear of something else. I would start out small...try a 5 min ride on the freeway...get on one exit then off the next. I'm not sure if you're afraid to ride or drive. If you're afraid to ride, then have someone with you who can remind you to breathe slowly and deeply. Distract yourself; iisten to the radio, engage in a conversastion in something that is intense and of interest to you. Gradually, extend the ride by one minute each time. And reward yourself for each time that you do this. The only way to overcome panic is to face it head on. When irrational fears like this are confronted directly, they crumbled and wither away. Good luck for wanting to do something about this.
  • I feel it is more safe to drive the freeway than say the route through town where it is folks running red lights or rearending you .Try driving the freeway more often and you will soon have a fear of driving in town,Just kidding but it just takes time and repitition to overcome any fear.
  • I dont think you can get through this without professional help! It is in your head, but you have to find out what is causing it. I was in some car accidents, two realy bad ones. And now i hate being in a car, the freeway is the worst! My husband keeps telling me i need to go to the doctor. I dont want to end up on medication for it. But that might be the only way to get that part of my life back!-- Sarah class of 79
