Yup, I agree.

Several years ago our local fire department ran the following anti-fire campaign. "Ignorance and apathy live, learn not to burn" They seem to think so.

To learn something, we first have to be ignorant about the subject matter, because we can't learn something we already know. But ignorance can live without the will to learn; some people are happy not knowing. Also, learning increases with learning. When you start learning about something, you often want to know more.

Well, ignorance is the absence of knowledge... The only way for us to 'not' have ignorance is to have absolute knowledge, in which case there is no longer anything to learn. So, yes. If it wasn't for ignorance, we'd never learn anything. (The problem however, is that a lot of people don't realise when they have ignorance and assume they have knowledge, thus they don't learn anything - ignorance is not at fault)

In the literal sense, absolutely. Without ignorance, there's nothing to learn. In the sense of ignorance inspiring learning ... still yes in a sense, but more accurately without the drive to lessen our ignorance, we'd never learn anything. Wanting to know 'why' or 'how' or 'what' is what makes people learn things.
