  • Yes, he was impeached on two charges, Obstruction of Justice and Purjury to a Grand Jury, by the House of Represenatives, but was cleared by the Senate for the Obstruction charge. I think it was all a power ploy by the Republicans from start to finish. An affair is not an impeachable offense. It's a civil matter. As to Whitewater all the trial did was prove he was involved in a failed bussiness deal where some of the players commited illegal acts. Also not an impeachable offense since it happened before he was in office. If it was Bush would have been impeached from the three failed oil companies he ran where rampant corupption was found. To be a truely impeachable offense you have to prove an inability to do the job or that the president committed illegal acts in office and used the power of his office to cover it up. Something which Clinton never did, but we all know Bush does with shocking regularity.
  • bill clinton became the second president of the u.s.a.to be impeached.
  • Actually he was impeached but that is only the first of two processes. At first I thought he wasn't but I was astounded to learn that I was ignorant of the total process of removal. I thought he was just being censored. Gladly this petty ploy by his opponents in congress just went to show how childish people can be since this provided a perfect smokescreen for his opponents to spin their nauseous propaganda and generally spin everything out of control. I can't believe there are so many vindictive and petty personality types out of there that actually thought it was legal to try to impeach a president on charges of perjury for actions done in his personal life which had no relations to his job. Actually this should be thrown out and dismissed since this should have been a civil trial since his promiscuousness had no direct correlation with the duties that he performed in office. This was a total smokescreen and a great embarrassment upon the entire face of the American legal system. Yes he liked to cheat on his wife: can you blame him? No this was not related to his performance of the office of president and any allegations of cheating on his wife are not lawful charges for impeachment. So I officially exonerate slick Willy due to the fact that congress did not have any legal grounds to accuse the president of civil abuses with his spouse since such allegations in no way were related with his job as president. It was really shameful of the Republicans and this was the main reason that I have no respect for them and Bush's presidency just but the cork on the bottle.
  • To impeach simply means to accuse a public official before an appropriate tribunal, to challenge the credibility of, to call to account. It does not mean that the person is removed from office. Bill Clinton was impeached. He is the 2nd president to be impeached. The first was Andrew Johnson. Neither was removed from office. Both were acquitted. Please see http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/impeach for the definition of "impeach". For details of Clinton's impeachment, please see http://www.infoplease.com/spot/impeach.html.
  • The second president to be impeached by the House but not convicted by the Senate was President Bill Clinton. In September 1998, Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr sent to Congress the findings of his investigation of the president on the charges of perjury and the obstruction of justice. The House approved two charges against Clinton: lying to the grand jury about his affair with Monica Lewinsky and obstruction of justice. The articles of impeachment were then sent to the Senate, which acquitted Clinton.
  • Yes, he was impeached, but to say that it was a political ploy of the republicans is absurd. The true reason for doing it was to show the American public that not even a sitting president can get away with lying to a grand jury. However, eventhough the House voted articles of impeachment, the spineless senate decided to let him pass. If you or I lied (perjured ourselves) under oath to a Grand Jury, do you think we'd be given a pass. NO! It is just another example of how little respect politicians have for the public and the legal system under which they (the public) are expected to live.
