  • Some of them do cause some of us are.
  • As a European I have to say that many Europeans have become very anti-American. And yes, one of the points we continually pick on is the lack of general global knowledge. In my humble opinion stupidity is a matter of intelligence and I would not say that Americans are less intelligent than Europeans; not would I say the opposite. I would rather point out loop-holes in the US education system, which if looked at critically, is quite appauling for a country of such economical well-being. The other point is that Europeans travel much more outside of their own countries, which gives them (in general) a broader perspective of the world. I must add though that not many Europeans leave Europe, which you could say is the same as Americans not leaving the US, rather travelling the different states. The big difference is that there is so much more diversity within Europe. If you travel 300 miles you're in a completely different environment, with a different language, different cultures etc. If you drive 300 miles in the US you might find a different accent and a slightly different mentality, but you will still have your McDonalds, Burger King, Target etc. In case anyone is wondering, I lived in the US for a year when I was 14 and learnt nothing new except for American History, and this was in one of the top private schools in Atlanta; Westminster. When I moved to Tokyo the next year, I was behind in math, science and economics. This cannot be blamed on my study habits because I was always a B+ student, it was simply due to the fact that the school was behind on the British education system.
  • I am not in Europe, I am from New Zealand, but I don't think All Americans are stupid. However, some distant relatives came over to New Zealand from America and their daughter stayed here for a year and went to school here. She was considered bright in America, here, they had to place her two classes lower than she should be in because she wasn't bright enough. I think this says more about the education system in America than its people.
  • I'm not European, I'm Australian. I KNOW that not all Americans are stupid. I can say though, that over here, the general perception of Americans is that they are very insular and hence rather ignorant of anything outside of the USA.
  • I don't know if they think we're stupid so much as insular, self-involved and ignorant about what goes on in the rest of the world..many people don't care about anything or anyone but their own particular group, town, state, country...Europeans for the most part are much more knowledgeable about and interested in the rest of the world. But I can't speak for them..I'm just giving you my impression...or perhaps what I would think if I were one of them! Happy Tuesday! :)
  • im from ireland in europe some people think americans are stupid any way theres stupid people in every country
  • As a European who has never travelled to the USA, although I have been to most European countries and several in North Africa, I would say that Europeans in general are too bright to make such a sweeping generalisation. My wife, who has been to the USA, thinks that their main talent is in the creation of make-believe, but she's only been to Florida.
  • Depends.. there are different levels of stupidity. I think the worst kind is ignorance... or someone who never wants to learn. It's like burning books is a crime but not reading them is an injustice to yourself. Americans can be very smart. Like all countries, there are those individuals who have no desire to learn and there are those who have the passion of acquiring knowledge. I'm not an American citizen but I go to an American college.. I'm somewhat baffled of how immature some of these students are.. I suppose that's another form of stupidity. Ignorance and Immaturity! I try to surround myself with bright people.. and they're pretty easy to find here as long as you know where to look. I also noticed that a person may be uneducated in a particular subject area but amazingly excel in another. I don't really think it matters if you're "stupid" I think persistence and the desire to achieve your aspirations is far more important.. although, being bright certainly helps you get to where you want.
  • Well, they voted George W Bush for a second time... that says a lot.
  • If it wasn't for the Americans,Europe would be speaking German.
  • It's because Stupid people are the people that make it on to the news
  • A lot of them probably do. Heck, I’m an American and even I think we’ve got a pretty good abundance of stupid people.
  • If the Europeans go against the Americans... then they are stupid.. and vice versa..The rest of the world MIGHT win... in this silly confusion...
  • we hate to be reminded of what the fact that you yanks saved us in the war.. well fukin done you bunch of shit bags you showed up three fucki years late...
  • Most Europeans still think that Americans are the new kids on the block because America is only 500 years old whereas Europe still has Roman aqueducts kicking around which date back to Julius Caesar.
  • If they don't. they're just being kind or sympathetic. 'cause americans have less intelligence, class, style, athletism(uninduced of course) and longevity than do americans. Oh hell, why did I have to be born american.
  • I don't think Americans are stupid, and most I have met outside of America have been smart, educated and pretty knowledgeable. However it does seem that on some things there is just some sort of ignorance, both in the people I have met in and outside the US (though I admit only going once to Washington DC) to what is going on in parts of the world and why. Though this does vary. The media we get from America certainly does make it seem that those in the limelight are more ignorant or even stupid than people from other countries. Education is probably the main factor. And education varies within countries. I am sure that if you ask certain sections of British society you will get some very ignorant and idiotic answers to basic questions. However as the US is still the main exporter of popular culture we are just exposed to more American Idiocy and Ignorance than other countries. For example, America didn't save Europe in World War 2, the Soviets did, seeing as they did the majority of the fighting, however popular culture would have the Americans rolling into Berlin and saving us all from Hitler.
  • "If it wasn't for the Americans,Europe would be speaking German" I am an American. And this comment by an American really shows how intellectually stupid we are. We can't debate the premise without throwing in a stupid comment that has nothing to do with the question.
  • No, not at all! Just the contrary they think. Europeans know that Americans are the most clever and most intelligent people in the world. They also know defintively well that Americans are the best looking people in the world. And therefore in Europe every European can do nothing but admire wit an open mouth the extremely good looking and intelligent Americans. Europeans know vey well that it is a divine gift being an American and therefore Americans are always regarded as something extremely special and superior.
  • I think the American school-system is one of the best in the world and absolutely superior to any other educational system. Americans are not stupid but extremely sophisticated and have an extremely superior education to Europeans. Europeans only can learn from Americans and so Europeans have to accept the superior education of each American. The knowledge of Americans about anything in the world is nothing but immense and superior and this is also the reason why America has been since ever the leading nation of the whole world. The extreme high educational level of Americans makes them superior to any Europeans so that I think it is nothing but mere jealousy if Europeans think that Americans are stupid. We have to accept in Europe that Americans are the best informed and the best educated people in the world. They are not stupid.
  • I had an opportunity to prove some of them wrong yesterday. :)
