It's not always about making you look taller - I wear heels all the time and I'm already quite tall, I just like the look of them. If you did want to seem taller platforms probably wouldn't be the best way to do it anyway, seeing as they're quite an obvious sort of shoe and it's unlikely anyone would make the mistake of thinking you were really that tall.
