  • No. Signing a citation doesn't mean you admit any guilt, it only means that you acknowledge that you have been given the citation and are aware of it. A police officer will not sign your name. If you refuse to sign he will arrest you and have you processed. You will have to sign before you are released.
  • He could but I don't want that f*ckers autograph :(
  • Sketchy Mess Jeoffory - you are correct up to the point about arrest for not signing. According to the Utah State Law 77-7-18 you are not required to sign anything. The officer must only ISSUE and DELIVER the citation. There is not law stating a signature is required. "77-7-18. Citation on misdemeanor or infraction charge. A peace officer, in lieu of taking a person into custody, any public official of any county or municipality charged with the enforcement of the law, a port-of-entry agent as defined in Section 72-1-102, and a volunteer authorized to issue a citation under Section 41-6a-213 may issue and deliver a citation requiring any person subject to arrest or prosecution on a misdemeanor or infraction charge to appear at the court of the magistrate before whom the person should be taken pursuant to law if the person had been arrested. " I did not come up with this on my own. I found the answers here: http://exposedcorruption.blogspot.com/2007/11/hwy-patrolman-arresting-and-tasing-man.html
  • Based on the other responses, I am not sure exactly what is being asked. I assumed you mean can an officer sign off your ticket to avoid having to appear. And the answer is generally no. There are some tickets (e.g. fix it tickets) that only require you to have it signed off. But most citations (especially ones for misdemeanors) require you to appear.
