I had a honda w/over 200,000 miles on it & never had a problem...well made cars go forever (buy foreign honda, volvo, toyota) & I wouldnt get anything with over or close to 100,000 miles or you maybe buying another car sooner than you thought...let carmax (if its in your area) do one of their inspections for free or get a carfax report on that specific car...do your research!
its hard to say its usually 12,000 miles a year so if you were buying a 3 yr old car you wouldn't really want to go over 36,0000 miles but on the other hand the 36,000 mile car for 3 yrs could have been taken care of great and a 3 year old car with lets say 28,000 miles could have been taken care of poorly. its your right to bring a used car to a mechanic to check it out for you that would be my suggestion .....good luck
In Georgia 20,000 a year is average most people have 1 car per person so if you average in work, pleasure, and vacation thats pretty good. So if you buy a 2003 about 90,000 is okay with cars with strong motors like cadillacs, chevy and toyota's.
I have a 2002 Chevy> It has 112,000. That may seem like a lot, but these newer motors are awesome. I also have a 1991 Toyota Camry with 94,000 miles. Like brand new. The important thing you need to walk away with is don't just look at the mileage, look at the vehicle itself. You won't go wrong with most Toyotas, Nissans, Chevy's, and SOME Fords. BUT BE REAL CAREFUL with anything low low end (Plymouth NEON, etc) or high end used (BMW) Most importantly have the car checked out by a mechanic before you buy it!!!! Good Luck
What year?
Where do you live?
Some people consider "heavy" use to be over 10K miles per year. Other places consider 15K/yr to be normal.
My cars have averaged 13 years old and about 185K. Some cars can make 500K+ with only basic maintenance while others (mostly American) are dead by 200K no matter what, and often before 150K.
I have to agree with Jerv. I personally look for a vehicle to have an average of no more than 10K-12K miles per year. I also prefer not to get a vehicle with over 100,000 miles on it (American) if possible.

You're reading Whats a good number of miles on a used car? Or how many before you dont want to buy the car? I'm a first time buyer and I have no idea and not a whole lot of money.
