  • Monarch butterflies, like most butterflies, eat flower nectar. If the butterfly is still alive, mix up some sugar water and place it in a shallow container, like a jar cap or something, and put that it in the enclosure with the butterfly. Depending on its generation, it may simply be its time to die. It's also possible that it got caught in a cold snap with nothing to eat. Monarchs migrate to California and Mexico for the winter. It may have gotten blown off course. Do a GOOGLE search for monarch migration to see what I'm talking about. Good luck.

  • The biologists in Southern California have found that Gatorade is similar to flower nector. This was published by a sucessful butterfly breeder in the Daily Breeze Newspaper a few months ago.
