  • The vice president can run for president, but the ex-president cannot run for vice president. An individual can only serve a maximum of ten years (two four year terms, preceded by no more then two years as the VP of a dead president, thus serving as president for ten years total) If he served for eight years already, and ran for VP, he could not serve all four years if his president died. Instead, the ex-president's wife should run for president. :)
  • Nothing prevents a former president from being elected as vice president even if he/she has served 2 terms as president AMENDMENT XXII Passed by Congress March 21, 1947. Ratified February 27, 1951. Section 1. No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of President more than once.
  • Yes they can do that. The term limits go with the office not the person. In other words switch jobs star over.
  • The short answer is no. There is a 'however,' to this answer in that the lawyers for each side are sure to read whatever the agenda will support. The Constitution's XII Amendment states in the last sentence "But no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States." Amendment XXII Section I states "No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of President more than once." So the extrapolation of these amendments results in my layman's mind is thus; Bill Clinton is not constitutionally eligible to the office of President. Therefore, he is also not eligible to hold the office of Vice President. As always, the lawyers (read law makers) are sure to twist the letter of the law to fit what the powers-that-be desire. Your thoughts on this are welcome.
