1997 GMC Jimmy has a fuel system problem, wont stay running, fuel pump just replaced , changed distr. cap and rotar, smell gas all the time, cant figure it out?

    check all vaccum lines change the fuel filter how old is the gas if its old change that out checks fuses diagnostics on the computer are u getting spark did u check did u mess up the firing order of the plugs when everything got put back together if so firing order is on the intake manifold fix it c if u have spark stick a screw driver in a wire and hold the screwdriver next to the block and crank it see if it sparks or not if not checks wiring on the coil

    You didn't give a whole lotta info but the sad thing is, I do know exactly what your problem is. The GM V-6 is famous for this (At least the 4.3 Vortec is anyways). You have your fuel rails(2 gas lines side by side) coming into the engine compartment and to the intake manifold. Inside that manifold, those 2 lines are plastic and they run to this center piece (ECM). From there the fuel is distributed in 6 small lines, one to each cylinder, commonly refered to as the spider assembly. One of those small lines lays across the two larger lines that brought the fuel in and after years of vibration, they have wore a hole in one of the lines. I have replaced these on 3 of my Vortec's. The reason you smell gas all the time is it sprays out of there while you drive and just lays in on the manifold. This could become a fire hazzard if it was still running. Job takes about 1 1/2 to 2 hours to do and the 2 new plastic hoses run about $85 only from a dealer as far as I know. Good luck to you.

    I have a 91 GMC Jimmy with a 4.3L I just got running ok. Changed the fuel pump and filter, went to Change the oxygen sensor and now it wont start and has gas dripping out of an exhaust leak near the sensor I replaced. If u get any info hit me up, kmc_wild_1@yahoo.com
