You fry should be at least a month old. At that point you will have to reassess. It's one of those things you have to watch and wait, and experiment until you find what works. If you have them in a larger area they will grow faster.

My computer isn't allowing me to answer you in a comment. You will have to wait at least a month for them to be large enough. At this point they may or may not be (you will have to reassess their size in relation to the parents), but anything less and they are surely going to be prey. I've heard of some people using 1.5 months as their method, but I use 1.5 inches. Their overall size in a month will depend on a number of factors. Make sure they have plenty of room. Raising the temperature of the water will raise their metabolism and will promote faster growth. If you try that, make sure you feed them several small meals a day. I'm sorry I'm unable to give you a single straight forward answer, but there isn't one. Again, I use the length method, but use your best judgement and the option you are most comfortable with.

take a look at the parents' mouths and ask yourself if the little guys would fit. I'm not being a smart-ass, that's actually how I used to gage it. :P

It really depends on the size of the tank, whats in it, and the amount of fish. If you have a large tank with lots of places for the fry to hide, you really don't need to seperate them. If you only have the parents in the tank, most of the time the female will chase them into a hiding spot. The male on the other hand might eat them. It really all depends on how comfortable the fry are. If they are hiding around rocks or plants most of the time they feel threatened or scared. If they are out around the top or swimming around like they're normal sized, they don't feel threatened there shouldn't be a problem with the parents eating them. If you've already seperated them, a good size to put them back in is larger than the parents mouth.(or big enough so that they can't be eatten) Thats mainly the problem with breeding guppies: the adults tend to eat the fry.
