Support, understanding and open communication would have been nice. But at least I know enough to give those things to my son.

If I would have listened better to the good advise I had at my disposal or better followed the examples I had before me. I am today exactly where I have placed myself. VGQ+++ -Buddy

I think everything was done that could be done to help me grow into a well rounded caring adult. If I fall short, it is my failure, I cannot blame anyone else.

I dunno... my mom thinks the reason my dad never bonded with me is because I was a colicky baby, and nearly every complex I've developed as an adult stems from my father's dissaproval, so maybe if I had been a nice baby like my sister, I'd be outgoing and cool. I don't know.

Not having an acholic mother and father

I told my kids they had to be ready before going out in the world. I gave my advice with college, working their butts off, save money and then they could go tackle the world. None of this was ever mentioned to me and I think I may have made some better choices if life had been explained to me.

Well, I'm nearly an adult now, and so far I seem to have turned out okayish. But I can say with a fair amount of certainty that I probably would have turned out better adjusted had I had some friends my own age and (Ironically enough) parents who treated me like their child instead of a midgit drinking buddy. But ah well, no looking back now...

I spent long hours, sometimes all day at my Grandmother's house. She was a bad influence because she was a very negative person who contributed to make my childhood a not so happy one.

If televangelists and other conservative christians did not spend so much time and energy using the media to attack gay people.

Good question, Jay and my answer is I don't really know. Maybe if I hadn't been so painfully shy and introverted and younger than my fellow students I would have had more friends and been more outgoing earlier in my life. If I had had more friends I would have had more experiences and maybe made other choices that would have put me somewhere else in life. But I'll never really know.

Parents who didn't spend most of their money on drugs.

My parents died. That screwed up the childhood a bit. Having my Dad would have definitely changed my life.

If I went into any amount of detail here, I'd be typing for the next half-hour. So, I'll just say that if I had gone to public school instead of private school, I'd be a much better person....and emotionally and mentally stable as well.
