16. Their emotions and sexuality are getting to the point that, if left unexpressed, can result in neuroses later in life. It's also an age where you can really trust them to take care of themselves if you've laid down how to do such correctly. Lay down rules to live by, make sure he/she's not confused about sex and love and don't fear reality, because no matter how far high up you fly in what makes your world rotate, you can never get away what's waiting for you on the ground.

Sixteen is probably a good age to start dating. Before that, I would let them go out on group outings with kids of both sexes. But no actual 'dates' until 16.

our kids were allowed to go on group outings with friends throughout their teens, but no one was allowed to date singly until after graduating high school. it worked for us!

I don't have kids. I think it would depend. I think I would let them go to dances with a partner even in middle school. Nothing is really serious then. I'd consider letting them group date even. I'd say once they hit high school they should be allowed to date normally though. No sleeping over at people's houses, and no unsupervised time when not in a public place until 16 probably.
