Do members of a cult know they are in a cult or do they just think they are in a group ect?

Cult is often what the big religion calls the little religion.

I think by definition they know that they are in a cult.

I think they have some idea, but don't see themselves (either by denial or delusion) as in a 'cult'.

My parents, when they were in one, denied it. They said they were "just in the School," learning "esoteric ideas" or something. Judging from that, and from reading the stories of people who got out of other cults, I'm guessing most people are in denial about it.
