If visiting the US on a visitors visa and then you decide to get married to someone. Does the law allow you or will you have to go back and apply for a different visa?

If you get married you are allowed to file for "Adjustment of Status" based on your marriage to a US citizen. You will have to prove that when you entered the US that you didn't intend to stay. You must prove that you intended to return to your home country and that the relationship is genuine. You need to file form I-485 along with quite a few other forms. It is a long process and can take a year or more to complete. You will have to provide biometrics and attend an interview with your spouse. You should also hire an immigration attorney if you can afford it. They will prepare the paperwork for you and attend the interview with you. Hope this helps!
