  • Yes, it does count toward the "TAFMS" (Total Active Federal/Military Service). While on "convelesence leave" status, a military member's pay continues, and provided all other requirements for advancement are met, they can even be promoted while convelesing. Some speciality payments are stopped (e.g. Family Separation Allowance, Overseas Duty Pay and others) but for the most part, this period of recuperation will not damage a service member's career, and if the injury occured in combat, as a result of enemy action, they will even qualify for a "Purple Heart" decoration, seemingly small compensation for some injuries and pain, but that is not a minor decoration, it counts a lot in a service member's career.
