In a lightning storm, a car is one of the safest places to be, forming a natural Faraday cage, conducting the electricity around you to the ground. A car is not 100% safe. A metal building would be safer. Rubber soles won't help you much - in the rain they'll get wet, and conduct over the surface. Also lightning could run down your legs then jump the rest of the way to the ground.

inside.... 90 percent of all houses are grounded.. especial those in lightening prone areas. another reason for the saying "sense to get out of the rain.."
-
I have been in a car struck by lightning on two separate occasions. Needed to change a lot of fuses but I'm still kicking. An airplane is good also because they are not grounded (in flight).
-
YOUR CAR IS THE SAFEST. charge doesn't stay inside the the surface, it always stays outside it. Though the car is not complete metal but still you won't get better protection.
-
Somewhere inside, with someone special, with a passion greater than that storm outside... :)
-
inside a house, not on the phone and away from windows.

The absolute safest play to be would be in a helium filled vector bubble. It would be the most logical place to be also. Just make sure that your bubble confirms to the U.S. Helium Bubble specifications.

In a house or car. If you're in a house, it's a good idea not to talk on a land line phone during a thunderstorm. There's the story of the Cincinnati TV weatherman who, on the 6 O'clock news, warned folks not to talk on their phones during a tstm. Then he went home for dinner and was on the phone when the house was hit by lightning. He survived but had some 'splainin to do.

Inside your car..its earthed!!!

One of the most safest places during a lightning storm is inside of a house. But if there are no houses nearby, another safe place is a car. Stay away from water, metal objects and tall things such as trees. Lightning is often attracted to trees.
-
In the car and in your house. Nothing will happen to you if you are in a car or a house. That's actually the saftest place on earth. Just ask your Physic teacher (if you have on). But do never ever be near a tree ;)

Out of town.

Graveyard!
-
Somewhere else. The question didn't say IN a lightning storm.
-
The next state over.
-
probably indoors

Away from the storm. Where else?
