I live very near to Amsterdam, about 80 kilometers from it. I go there mostly to see bands, or because I like the athmosphere and like the second hand shops and other cool shops like bookstores and such. It's just a nice day out. A funny thing is to watch the tourists. Especially many young tourists from close-by countries like England, Scotland, Belgium, Germany, France. They mostly just go for the coffeeshops and to get stoned. In many occasions they can hardly remember being there at all, because they drink and smoke too much. Fortunately there are also many tourists who go for culture. There are many interesting things to see in and around Amsterdam.

I go twice a year every year..and initially i went on a stag do and got stoned and layed...but now i go back and just explore the place,its got such a charm to it despite being a huge place...but turn a street and your caught in a 16th century time warp..with a little antique shop in it that also sells a bit of weed on the side ....and so you sit there on a £500, 300 year old chair trying to stop the shop dog from sniffing your nuts...only in the Dam..i love the place

I went to work for three months - and stayed for 30 years. Amsterdam felt like coming home.
