The director is in charge of the "vision" of the play or film which includes the following... Taking care of hiring the right players for the right parts... [ Did such character portrayed by such player seem correct? ] (Note sometimes they < directors > have no control over who they get... And it's usually noted in the playbill / credits of who was in charge of auditions.) Communication between departments... [ Does it look like each department did it's own take / idea on the "vision" or not? ] Blocking... [ Could you see all story actions taking place? Did anyone bump into something / someone, or worse, fall off the stage? ] Timing / speed... [Was the "speed" of the play / film flowing, or were there contrasting actions.] This can also be a sound effect coming in too late, etc... Stuff that should have been worked on before release. That is what I can think of, for the moment, and it may be the tip of the ice-berg.
