The pedants will point out that, since the FA Cup was established before the league, the first few winners were non-League teams by default. I'm not a pedant though, or am I? Anyway, since the league was founded, Tottenham's win in 1901 remains the only one by a non-League team. At this stage, there were 36 clubs in the league, so it's not quite the big deal it seems to us, but it was pretty good going all the same. Spurs beat four First Division teams in winning the Cup (Preston, West Brom, Bury and Sheffield United) as well as non-league (at the time) Reading. Spurs joined the league in 1908.
