In my opinion, no, but it wouldn't hurt to acknowledge the card in conversation. I'm imagining someone in a hospital bed surrounded by get well cards and flowers. An ill person should not be expected to remember everybody that showed some kindness toward them during their illness. They should probably acknowledge substantial gifts -- for example, house or pet sitting, or meal running -- but a card is the most basic currency of get well wishes, and shouldn't require follow on social engagement unless there was something very special about the card. I suspect that it's not just the get well card your parents are upset about.
