  • Is it scratched?
  • I bet that you have the old "fat boy" PS2 and not the slimline. I also bet that the game disk you have has " Playstation greatest hits" on the cd jacket in bold type on the top of the front cover. If all of the above are true you can forget about that disc playing in that PS2. I just went through all that a month ago, coincidentally, with that very game. I tried it in all of my pals PS2's. It would only work in a slimline, no fatboys. I bought a slimline, presto...works. There's nothing wrong with the fatboy, it just doesn't like those "playstation greatest hits" games. Same thing with a GTA game I bought.
  • The real problem is that GT4 is on a dual-layer disc and either your game disc is now dirty (lint, finger-prints, sticky kid's fingers, etc.) or your console has a dirty lens. A dirty disc and/or a dirty lens don't mix well with dual-layer discs. Chances are, by now, if you still have this problem and have actually been able to run GT4, that you have also probably seen the red-circle arrow. This is a pretty good clue through GT4 that your lens is dirty. Clean the disc (no lint), clean the lens and your problem will go away. Another way to check if the lens is too dirty is by trying to play a dual-layer DVD movie and see if the console exhibits the problem. There are tons of web pages that describe how to clean a dirty PS2 lens. God luck!
  • it has nothing to with having a "fatboy" PS2 or even a greatest hits game. Awhile back i bought GT4 and it worked fine, but after a period of time(less than a year)it started to not work as often. when i went to load the game it would say "loading disc" and then stop right away. soo i gave up and then finally borrowed my friends GT4 which worked on his fatboy. well guess what? it did the same thing. soo i figured well maybe both games are scratched too much. so i bought another used GT4 and this one was a "greatest hits" version. well guess what? DIDNT WORK. so i got frustrated and cleaned my PS2 out and tryed adjusting the lens, for i heard it can help with loading problems. it didnt work. and my next path is cleaning with rubbing alcohol. so infact if anyone can help me..that would be great.
