I think they want you to wish them good luck.
-
Nobody ever has told me that. Maybe thats just something they do in England.
-
idk i do that but my bro did that and my sister and i think just after hearing it just ended up saying it and i got like my mom and bf to end up saying it to.
-
This is a rude habit they were taught in school, from having to raise your hand and ask permission to go to the bathroom.
-
They take pride in their BMs I suppose. As if I could give a sit on the throne of emptiness.
-
They are not going to the toilet, they are getting out of buying there round (NIFF NOFF)
-
Well, my son does it because he's 3.
-
Not sure, maybe they are just used to saying what they are feeling. Maybe they are comfortable enough to let you know in case you needed to go too you could join them. I know in our house we have 5 people and 1 toilet, so if anyone is dropping a deuce, the rule is to warn everyone so they can do their 'potty' before it gets occupied for an unspecified amount of time. "If you have to go potty, go now!"

Smalltalk...:-)

This is an acceptable excuse worldwide for leaving a meeting, recessing court, and just about anything else. Going to the bathroom is something all humans face and accept. its mother nature. Why tell it? Well, at least you are telling someone you are going for personal relief and not to smoke a joint. Dig it?
-
Because if you don't say anything, they will ask where you are off to
-
i have a habit of responding with thanks for sharing----smile and enjoy the day
-
adults say it coz otherwise they are asked where they are going if not when they get back its "WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?!!" my lil brother bless him wakes up walks past the bathroom wakes ME up and says 'im going to the toilet' this i have no idea y!
-
I HATE it when a man says "I've gotta take a piss". Yes, it's honest, but TMI.
-
If someone needs to 'go', when they're in company, I think they might think they're being rude, if they just suddenly get up and disappear, without an explanation. So I think that's why they tell people, sometimes.
-
Exactly. Never understood that one. As if i need to know. Couldn't they just say something like i'm just popping out for a minute...No need for details, please
-
I think it's quite harmless. People go to the toilet, it's natural. If you're in a new place, then you need to find out where they are located. It's only inapropriate if you have guests or are at a formal occasion and someone says "right, I'm goin for a slash" or "I need to take a dump" The alternative is to say "Where's the ladies' room?" or "I'll just be in the gents'"
-
I think people are generally rude (like the way some people today ask personal questions, even if they don't know you). I usually say brb/be right back. I pretty much talk IRL how I talk online. Leet speak has made it easier for me to converse.
-
So you know where they are (and ABOUT how long they'll be gone) if the phone rings or someone stops by their desk... So you don't WONDER where they are if they're gone for more than a minute... And, sometimes, just to be annoying! (If they know it bothers you, some will do it just to get the reaction from you!) ;-)

hmmmm....do they ever...hold on i need to take a quick trip to the loo....this might take awile....
