Is it appropriate to fart while in a public bathroom and other people are present? Does it matter whether or not you are in a stall?

Yes and no. If there is any public place where farting is acceptable, it has to be in a toilet stall. Gas is just another form of human waste after all, and the bathroom is the place for getting rid of those. Just try to be considerate with it. If someone else is present, maybe wait till they leave. If you can't wait, then saying "excuse me" afterwards is appropriate. Because even if you are in a bathroom, that fart is still going to stink up their air space...and a little courtesy goes a long way.

Does not matter if it is appropriate or not, men just let'er rip. i wonder if this also occurs in womens public restrooms? never was brave enough to ask this question. stalls are not soundproof. it only echoes the sound. men are not very discreet. public restrooms are just that, public. from the homeless to the rich, we all have gas. some just deal with it better than others.

I think the only time it's 'inappropriate' to fart is when people are eating, or in a kitchen/place where food is, cause that's pretty rank, or in enclosed spaces. Other than that, and other obvious situations, I don't think it's down to being appropriate or not, more whether or not you mind embarassing yourself and being laughed at.

1st - most people can hold one in for only a short time - so the matter of choice is largely taken out of our... uhh... hands. 2nd - if you make it to a bathroom - what better place? Fart to your heart's content. +5
