  • I think if it's done very early, soon after birth, before the horns appear,it makes for a safer life for them and other cattle.
  • Some cattle are born with out horns but if they have horns they tend to gore other cattle with them! They should be removed when they a young if you are going to remove them completly. large cows need the tips cut off but this is a dangerous job unless you sudate them. This wont hurt them like cutting your finger nails. I belive it is cruel to leave them sharp to gore each other. cattle farmer
  • Cows grow horns too, you know. If you have ever seen a cow gored in the eye (I have) you'd understand completely why it is done. In the wild, they are necessary to fight off wolves and big cats, but in domesticated cattle, they are a danger to the cattle. They are also a danger to the human caretakers. I'm not big on removing the horns from a mature animal, but they are quite easily prevented from growing by burning the buds before they start. It isn't a whole lot more traumatic than burning off a wart on your hand, but it can save everyone around them much more serious pain when they are grown.
