Maybe when/if he has kids, he will change his mind. I don't have kids but I imagine it gives one a whole different perspective on their parents.

I'd say "good"... "If you love me, I succeeded in keeping you alive". "If you don't LIKE me, I succeeded in keeping you alive and disciplined." And then I'd say "shut up and move over, you are blocking the tv with all your crying and sniveling" "Take your whining ass to your mother"... Fortunately, it is not a popularity contest. Children aren't going to always like you, and you can guarantee they are not going to like you when you make them work, or punish them. Not being liked could very well mean that you are doing your job. While it is wonderful to have your children as friends, being a "friend" is not the top of your job description.

I say thank you, I didn't always like you either. Then I hug her and am proud I raised her well enough to know that one has little to do with the other.

If that were to ever happen, I would be incapable of a response, as I would be crying. That would hurt me so deeply. :( I would never strike out at my child, no matter what.

Well sweetheart most long term relationships go through that stage and hopefully that's all this is, a stage in our relationship. Is there something specific you don't like about me because I'd be willing to work with you on it?

I'd wonder how the heck my kid got on AB and left me a comment when he/she doesn't even exist yet.

I would say; That makes us even! Just because you love someone does not mean you have to like and/or agree with everuthing they do or say! If they feel safe enough to say that they are able to discuss it! I guess I raised them right!

That is what my daughter says. I was unable to change her opinion over years. It could be due to generation gap. May be time will change her. But I do not wish for it any longer.
