What qualities do you look for in a companion animal?

You can't beat a dog. I want a working breed, for their intelligence. I like big dogs, no yappers. I don't want a purebred, too many medical problems. I ONLY look at the pound. Havn't gone wrong yet.

Friendliness, obedience and personality

I honestly don t want an animal as a companion, although humans have many faults, as myself, I would still prefer a human as a companion, ( I would not mind a well mannored cat as a house guest though)

One that looks me in my eyes. Good personality, not too playful, fairly independent, intelligent.
